6 Ways to Taste – A Juice Fanatics Acai Review

Before I drop into this acai review page, I'd like to explain my review format. It'll be similar to that of a wine or beer review since I'm somewhat of a liquid snob. I enjoy craft beer, wine, coffee, teas, juices, and smoothies so to capture each nuance of the product I'm reviewing, we're going to use the 6 s's. Sight, swirl, smell, sip, savor, and swallow. This method is superior in that it brings cascading flavors to your palette through your primary senses.

So... a little background on the 6 s's.

Sight – Before I even smell or drink, I look for some very important characteristics. How smooth is the pour? Is there any sediment? What color is it? A light, crisp red... or a deep, dark purple you can lose your thought in? Sight is very important – It leaves you with a hint of what's going to hit your taste buds.

Swirl – Swirling is the next step in the process – it allows the juice to breath a little and bring out hidden layers of flavor.

Smell – It's always a good idea to pour your beverage into a glass you can get your nose into a little. Believe it or not, your sense of smell is responsible for almost 90% of the taste. Did you ever eat or drink something while holding your nose? I willing to bet you didn't taste much. Smelling the juice should bring about undertones you might have missed. Maybe you'll get a chocolate or raspberry undertone. Or a hint of acerola cherry. It all depends on each product and your sense of smell.

Sip - Now we're getting to the good stuff – taste. I'll usually make sure I sip enough to get a good upfront taste on my tongue. A little side note, your tongue is divided into 4 parts that can detect different sensations. Sweet, sour, bitter, and salty.

Savor - It's always a good idea to roll the juice around your entire mouth to stimulate each part of your tongue. Acerola cherry has a tart sour flavor so it'll be detected more in the middle. Acai is a combination of sweet and sour so it'll be an up front flavor as well. I'll savor the flavor and try to pinpoint where and when I detect a certain nuance in the beverage.

Swallow – After you enjoy and discern the beverages characteristics, swallow and wait for the finish. Did your pallet keep a strong flavor of blueberry behind or did the flavor dissolve instantly?

Also, it's important to note that everyone tastes differ slightly, so when you try, your results may differ. It's always fun to compare, though!
